Day 1 in Juarez

Two words come to mind when I think about our day, Hot and Proud. We had no problems entering into Mexico this morning. We passed through 2 military check points and both of them gave us no trouble. A normal summer building schedule for Casas Por Cristo starts about 8 in the morning and goes till Noon when the group will stop for a Siesta. It is too hot to be working outside during the afternoon, so the groups will take a break and resume around 5. We arrived in Juarez about 9:30 this morning and didn't begin building till 10:30. Because of that late arrival, we decided to work through the afternoon in order to get the foundation laid and be able to put up the walls to the home on the second day. Needless to say it was a long and hot day, we went through over 50 gallons of water! After the long day we had the foundation laid and it will be an easier path for the rest of the build. I was very very proud of our students, they worked so hard in order to get the foundation laid. At the begining of the day our guide told them about the importance of getting the foundation laid and they took it as their personal mission to make it happen today. We had a nice relaxing evening with some chicken on the grill for dinner (Thank you Lisa Volz, Sylvia Sfuentes, and Andy Kuhn).
Tomorrow we will be putting up the wall of the home and begin working on the roof. Please keep us in your prayers tomorrow.

  2. 50 gallons!! That sounds about the size of a kiddie pool. :) Think its super cute you guys included the water drinking figures with all the people reminding you to stay hydrated. Royals won 4-2. :( Anyone else think we need to trade Baker?
    Well everyone I know that prayes is pretty much on the ball for you guys, and your requests.
    Our little neighbor Coltin came to chruch with us Sunday, and Faith told him that angles closed the teeth of lions and made them sleep to keep Daniel alive. Audrey announced that it was really toothfairies. lol :) Winged beaings touching teeth while they sleep. Makes sense! Kids they just really get it.
    Well may the angels be with all of you.
    Blessings,
    Mish

  3. Wow! Working through the afternoon as the kids did, is something that many adults wouldn't or couldn't do. I am so proud of all of you, including the adults that are there! :-) I pray that your relationship with God is strenthened as you work today. Do you know whether or not the family for which you are building the house are Christians? I am praying for them, too. Keep drinking water and applying sunscreen! Love to each of you!

  4. Dear Crew, Great Job! Everyone here is so proud of you. Today I have two verses on my mind that I want to share;
    1 Corinthians 1:4 "I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge."
    Joshua 1:9 "Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
    Can't wait to see what adventures await you today. Pam Anderson

  6. Congratulations on laying the foundation for the house...hopefully you have been laying the foundation for the people there to hear Christ's word through your work. I've been praying that the people there will be open to hearing about Christ. I'm so proud of all of you. Love you guys. Keep it up. (Note to Andy: Bugs 1: Misty 1. Success last night! love you)

  7. Matthew 22:37-40
    Jesus said, "Love the Lord your God with all your passion prayer and intelligence." This is most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it, "Love others as well as you love yourself". These two commands are pegs; everything in God's Law and the prophets hangs from them.

    We love you guys. As much as any human can love another. Live out these commands this week within your group as well as in the world. One may come easier than the other, thats why its so important!

    In Him ~
